vacanza in umbria itinerario todi perugia assisi orvietoUmbria is a land of convents, monasteries, abbeys and churches, and its Medieval villages have streets so narrow and tortuous that it is best to travel on foot to truly discover the city one intends to visit.
Nature also offers a lush spectacle of colors, sounds, and perfumes. The unique, constantly changing landscapes give the tourist energy, joy, and especially peace.
The cities of Umbria can be easily reached thanks to a section of A1, the Autostrada del Sole (Highway of the Sun), and connects with A14, the Adriatic. The distance to Rome-Perugia, for example, is 170 km.

Todi

vacanza a todi in umbriaJust a few km from our Vacation Homes is the city of Todi.
Characterized by narrow, winding lanes, it has the typical appearance of a medieval city. Visitors must visit the temple of the Consolazione, the gothic church of San Fortunato, the Palazzo del Capitano (Captain's Palace), the Annunziata Cathedral, and the churches of the Crucifix, Sant'Ilario and Santa Prassede. Near Todi is the site of the Teatro Concordia. Todi has a clear vocation for craftsmanship. The city has a community of carpenters, wood carvers, inlayers and cabinet-makers.
The municipal territory of the city covers 221 square kilometers, 197 of which consist of agrarian and forest surface. This is a rich district of woods where Holm oaks, downy oaks, beech, chestnut, and Aleppo pines prosper.

Perugia

vacanza a perugia in umbriaPerugia, 493 m above sea level, is the cultural center of Umbria.
Already in the Etruscan era, Perugia had become an important center of the Tiberina valley, thanks to its high position, dominating the bend of the river of Rome. The city now experiences many cultural activities, also thanks to the foreign universities that make the roads of ancient "Perusia" a true ethnic melting pot, with culture and peoples meeting and integrating themselves. This cosmopolitan soul of the city has its consecration in summer, with the Umbria jazz event, now a classic that brings in hundreds of thousands of tourists every July. To be seen in Perugia: the cathedral dome, corso Vannucci, the palazzo of the Priori, Fontana Maggiore, the Etruscan Arch and the Roman aqueduct. A note for the Tourist: if you leave your automobile in the parking lots south of the historic center, a system of escalators will lead you to the center without fatigue, and you will cross through the interior of the Rocca Paolina with very attractive views.

Assisi

vacanza ad assisi in umbriaAssisi rises from the highest point of the mountain group of the Subasio, in a region like Umbria that has an almost entirely hilly and mountainous territory with a population dedicated from antiquity to agriculture.
Assisi is, first of all, a spiritual city par excellence, immersed in this territory of mountains, nature and cultivated fields, which has as its emblem the splendid Basilica of St. Francis.
In approximately 1180, St. Francis, the most famous citizen of Assisi, was born. In 1206, Francis dedicated himself to Christ through service and aid to the poor, living in poverty himself. He was famous for his public renunciation, in the piazza of Assisi, of all the property of his rich parents. In 1228, only two years from his death, Francis was proclaimed a saint by Papa Gregorio IX. The most important monument in Assisi is the complex of the Basilica of St. Francis composed of two superimposed churches.
Also to be visited is the Basilica of Santa Chiara and the Cathedral of San Rufino with its Romanesque faēade adorned by three rose windows.
Other places linked to St. Francis are the Retreat of Montecasale and the retreat of the Verna where the saint stayed several times.

Orvieto

vacanza a orvieto in umbriaOrvieto is a marvelous city of art and history.
Over its territory are spread many necropolises, mostly inaccessible. Traveling the route that ascends to the plateau located between Orvieto and Bolsena, we turn toward Porano to visit the Tomb of the Hescanas, discovered in 1883. North of Orvieto, in the municipality of Corno, 19 tombs were explored, but the discovery of greatest significance concerns the tomb of Poggio Ginestra. This is a tomb, also articulated in tuff, divided into two rooms.
In the historic center rises the Cathedral dome built beginning in the 13th century. Don't miss the Well of the Cava and the Well of San Patrizio.
